Spring Into Wellness.

At last, the weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer. Summer is on the horizon, (sometimes difficult to tell with our London weather), and it's my favourite time of year!
With the hustle and bustle of modern-day life it is so easy to get lax with our healthy habits. Spring brings a re-fresh and teaches us the importance of attending to our routines and embracing healthy habits that really nourish us from the inside out.
Here are some healthy habits I like to adopt at this time of year to stop me falling off the waggon!

• Limit Alcohol Intake
It’s so easy to have a few extra drinks during social events with friends. But excessive alcohol intake can lead to disrupted sleep, contribute to weight gain and leave us really dehydrated. I don’t know about you, but after one too many glasses of wine these days I certainly feel the hangover for the next day or two and my energy levels are low, leaving me craving sugar and carbs to pick me up and the sheer thought of the gym or pilates makes me feel ill!

• Move Your Body
So get into your work outs! Now is the perfect time to go out for a brisk walk, or a cycle-ride or a yoga or pilates class. I absolutely love reformer pilates I remember the first time I went to a class my leg muscles must have been so weak I couldn’t even do legs in loops! (Which is the cool down stretch for those of you who haven’t been.) A year on, I can smash out the intermediate class sessions. Ten Fitness has helped me become stronger and fitter and I highly recommend their studios.

• Stay Hydrated
I just couldn’t think of another bullet point, kidding. It is one of the most basic and important things to make sure that you do as part of your daily routine. I have started adding electrolytes to my drinking water for an extra boost -  drinking plenty of water supports digestion, circulation and overall cellular function.

• Get Outside, Get Vitamin D
Read a book outside or go for a stroll in the park. The greatest absorption of Vitamin D is received through your forearms, so roll up those sleeves and get outside! Vitamin D is great for bone health, immune function and mood enhancing. Don’t forget to wear your SPF on your face!

Treat yourself! It’s really important that you do something just for you once a week. It can be anything, indulging yourself with a facial, a massage treatment or sauna, or even going shopping; it doesn’t have to be expensive, buy yourself a nice candle! The Byredo Bibliotheque, and Leverden Valley of Roses are my fave!
For anyone living in the Battersea area I have discovered Remedi in Nine Elms, they have the most incredible treatments and I will be using their infrared sauna on a weekly basis!
These little acts of kindness to ourselves help build our confidence and self-esteem.
