The Intermittent Fasting Guide

Let’s talk about the latest health and fitness trend; Intermittent Fasting.

There is a reason why it’s so popular amongst health and fitness professionals. Research suggests intermittent fasting can help with weight loss, brain health and heart health.

I started intermittent fasting in 2021 and I recommend it to everyone. My skin texture improved after 3 months, I lost weight naturally AND I have been maintaining (without trying) my skin glow and healthy weight ever since!

So, what is Intermittent (IF)?

IF is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. Commonly IF methods involve a 16-hour daily fast. Whilst you fast you can drink tea, coffee and water but make sure you don’t add any milk or sugar to your beverages! Anything that starts your metabolism will break your fast. That also includes any collagen powders, electrolytes etc.

Fasting has been a practice throughout human evolution. When you fast, several things happen to your body on a cellular level. Your hormone levels make stored fat more accessible. This means your body can utilise stored fat for energy. It also increases the fat burning hormone norepinephrine (noradrenaline).

Fasting supercharges metabolism making the body more efficient at breaking down nutrients and burning calories. it also slows down the degradation of DNA, which is what occurs when we age and accelerates DNA repair, thus slowing down the ageing process!

There are many versions of intermittent fasting, the schedule that I stick to daily is the 12-8. That means I restrict my eating hours and only eat in my 12pm-8pm window per day. You can change this around, sometimes I may be going for dinner at 8.30pm and it doesn’t suit my schedule, so instead I will do a 1-9pm window.

In a nutshell fasting supercharges metabolism making the body more efficient at breaking down nutrients and burning calories. It slows down the ageing process, fights off cancer cells and many more benefits!

I encourage everyone to fast, if you decide to try it let me know how you get on!
